Heating oil is still allowed!
The Quebec Government has adopted new rules that regulate heating oil usage but that do not prohibit it.
You have an oil-fired heating appliance or water-heater? Here is how you can be affected.
As of December 31st, 2023:
- It will be prohibited to install new oil-fired heating appliances.
- An oil-fired furnace or boiler more than 20 years old that requires repairs must be replaced by an electric one.
- The replacement of peripheral elements and electronic controls will however be permitted.
- An oil-fired water heater over 10 years old cannot be repaired.
- The tuning, maintenance, and cleaning of all these devices will remain permitted regardless of their age.
